CHURCH BUILDING PROJECTS

This year we have a project of building three village churches in Dodoma Region in Tanzania. Two of the churches are half-built already by the local church members – we are helping them to finish the work. We are building one church from scratch.

Praying for God’s provision to complete construction of Humekwa church when we first visited the village do a mission survey. God has provided through Mulberry Church.

Humekwa Church: Roofing done!

NOTE: We do not usually do the finishing work in our church building projects. The reason being that we want the believers we help to have a sense of ownership of their church facility. That happens when they contribute to the work in whatever way they can afford.

Humekwa Church, Dodoma

The church has 43 members (25 adults and 18 children). The believers in this village church had taken self-initiative efforts to build their facility. They made cement blocks and built the structure up to the lintel level. They needed help with roofing, which needed a lumpsum amount of money at once that was beyond their economic capability to afford. We are grateful to the saints at Mulberry Church in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Half of the generous donation they sent us was directed to roofing this church building.

Ikombo Church, Dodoma

This church has 80 members (44 adults and 36 children). The believers in this village church have also erected the walls of their church facility. Unfortunately, they did not quite reinforce the walls. Strong winds caused the wall on one side of the building to collapse. The remaining half of the generous donation from Mulberry Street United Methodist Church is used to rebuild the collapsed wall and reinforce all the walls with steel/concrete columns. This construction work is currently being undertaken. In the meantime our local church, ICC Dodoma, is mobilizing resources for roofing this building.

Yobo Church, Dodoma

2.     25 members (15 adults, 10 children) of the pastoralist Maasai tribe living in this village have committed their lives to Christ. They don’t have a house of worship yet. They meet under a shade tree for worship. Children don’t go to school because there is no school in the area. They fetch water for domestic use and for their animals from small dams which dry up during dry seasons.

We undertake a project to build a facility that will serve as a school for children education during weekdays, and as a house of worship on Sundays. We are going to drill a deepwater borehole to provide clean drinking water for the community and their livestock. We have done a hydrogeological survey already, which revealed availability of plenty of water at a depth of 150 meters. The Yobo Church project has not yet begun, but we are trusting God to have it done before the year ends.
